From the words of His Holiness Pope Shenouda III on fasting

Fasting is not merely abstinence from food but there is a spiritual element to control over the will. The same will which has controlled the food can also control the speech of each word to abstain from improper as well as control of thought and feelings

Mar Isaac said: Fasting tongue is better than a fast mouth.. And fast the heart desires is better than fast both tongue and mouth.
